Exciting insights were shared at the hybrid Dissemination Workshop in Leoben, where 31 participants converged to discuss cutting-edge research in green steel production. The workshop spotlighted findings from WIVA P&G’s flagship regional project SuS-F and the COMET module PlasmArc4Green, which are poised to contribute significantly to green steel production. Special thanks to Abdellah Kharicha, Chair of Simulation and Modelling Metallurgical Processes at Montan University Leoben and Tony Murphy, Scientific Director at CSIRO (Australia’s Advisory Board for Science and Industry), for bringing invaluable international expertise to Austria.
The topics discussed included:
- Computational model of thermal arc plasmas: Effects of hydrogen and metal vapour
- Magneto-Hydro-Dynamics in Electric Steelmaking
- Analyzing heat transfer in the hydrogen plasma smelting reduction (HPSR) process
- Simplified arc representation for complex geometries
- Heat transfer considerations in a lab-scale HPSR reactor
- Progress report on the SuS-F project
